The Chadwicks

A long-standing supporter, Jay Chadwick is the most recent family member to make a difference at Guthrie with his generosity and service in leadership roles. Jay's wife, Barbara Skillings Chadwick, graduated as an R.N. from Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing and holds it in high regard. She later worked in the hospital's critical and intensive care units; both the couple's children were born in the hospital.

As a long-term Guthrie board and committee member, Chadwick has witnessed Guthrie's evolution. "It's a privilege for our communities to have a health system of this caliber in our backyards," Chadwick says. "It benefits patients and gives families peace of mind. It's also a significant asset to the local economy, providing numerous employment opportunities." Chadwick earned his bachelor's degree in business from Penn State in 1978, followed in his father's footsteps at Tuscarora-Wayne Mutual Insurance Co. in 1985, and became president and CEO on his father's retirement in 1993. In 2018, he was elected chairman, president, and CEO of Tuscarora-Wayne's holding companies, retiring in May 2023. "Medicine and insurance are very different, but they share the same focuses: people, technology, capital, and a strategy to win," Chadwick says.
